I think that Arthur Ellis' use of the aforementioned metaphor is very creative, and I genuinely wonder if he just thought of that on the spot, or if he had to think about it. To think of one's self as a cog shows that Ellis think of the world as a cold, hard place, like machines are. It also shows he has very little hope for the system to change.
I think thing Ellis' metaphor is very interesting. It represents how we are all working together to make this society run. If one of us falls out, the whole system can't work. It kind of gives it a sort of irrelevance as well. You are only one tiny piece of a huge machine, and nobody really notices you until you are gone.
I think Ellis' metaphor is thoughtful and insightful. He is saying how he is just one man in this whole world of people who work to achieve justice. When you look at the bigger picture each individual person seems almost futile in the justice system, but when all these different people with different strengths come together as one, they can really conquer anything, and in this case John.
I think arthur Ellis' metaphor is interesting and makes you think. He is saying that he this one little cog-this small person and the machine is everyone. Separately they don't work well but when you put them together, they do their part and function as one.
