Book Two, Chapters XXIX and XXX

Why do you think Lois Simmie includes the chapters describing Polly’s burial site? What is the effect of these descriptions?

  1. I think that Lois Simmie adds the scenes about Polly's burial site because of the fact that it adds emotional substance to the story, not to say that there isn't any, it just adds even more. This has the effect that it adds poignancy to the whole thing. Having the reader know where Polly is buried, adds another sucker punch to the emotional roller coaster of this novel.

  2. I think that Lois simmie includes the chapters describing polly's burial site to add more suspense to the story. Everyone already knows that John killed Polly but reading about where she was killed gives readers more depth about the situation. Reading about where she was buried makes me shake my head and makes me disgusted. What kind of sick person would murder someone, bury them and then act like nothing happened??

  3. I think Lois Simmie added the chapter describing Polly's burial site at the beginning of the book to foreshadow what would happen later on in the novel. It adds suspense and leaves the readers wondering what he could possibly mean when writing those chapters. It gives the audience a reason to continue reading.

  4. I think Lois includes descriptions to add an element of human interest to the story. These excerpts allow the reader to sympathise with the poor Polly Wilson who has murdered for being upright and honorable.

  5. (Kaitlyn) I think that Lois includes these descriptions to add some emotion to the novel about Pollys death. Rather than just hearing the author tell us where she was buried, she descibes the mood and the sadness of being buried there.

  7. I think Lois Simmie includes the descriptions of Polly's burial site to cause suspicion and haunt you and foreshadow her death. When Simmie describes Polly's burial site in detail, people can have an image of what her death was like and it makes it seem more real so they can imagine it more and sympathise for Polly even more.
