  2. Polly and Jessie both deserve sympathy. Polly, unwilling to give up on her marriage with John, left her home and family to find john, who she believed may be in danger. her actions were entirely honourable yet for them she was killed. Jessie, though young still thought to ask John to produce proof of his divorce. Unfortunately John took advantage of her trust and love for him.

  3. I believe that both of them deserve sympathy, but I think that Jessie deserves the most. She was blind when starting a relationship with Joh. She knew nothing about his past affairs and was lied to literally non stop for the whole time she knew him. John says he loves Jessie but doesnt love her enough to be honest, or apologize for how awful of a person he is. Jessie did not ask for any of this. John KILLED Polly for Jessie. I could only imagine that Jessie would feel eternally guilty that her presence in John's life prompted him to murder his own wife. Jessie was so young and innocent when she met John, and she did not do anything to deserve the burden that John has brought to her. I am not saying that Polly does deserve it, and I realize she was the one who suffered the most, but I guess now there is no more suffering for her. But still a life of suffering for Jessie.

  4. (Kaitlyn) I think that they both deserve sympathy, however I think that Polly deserves it more so. Jessie was put through horrible things through all of this. She was completely blindsided when all of this unfolded. She knew of Polly, however she did not know of the immense web of lies John had built in secret. But Polly on the other hand had to take care of their children while not hearing from John for a year and not knowing where he could be, and when she finally found out about Jessie, she was heartbroken yet she still had hope to mend their relationship if she went to Canada to see John. However, shortly after she arrived, she was killed with selfish intentions of John just so he could be with Jessie.

  7. I don't think one deserves more sympathy than the other. They both happened fall in love with a man who turned out to be insane. For Polly, all she wanted was to be happy with John and raise their kids together. She did nothing wrong. She was a good wife and a good mother to her and john's children. Unfortunately that wasn't good enough for John so he decided that this was not what he wanted and instead of telling Polly the truth he kept it from her and killed her so that he wouldn't have to deal with her anymore. Jesse had no clue about John's past life. John only told her the parts that he wanted her to know and lied about the rest. To be put in this kind of situation and be stuck in the middle must be awful. I'm sure Jesse wants to believe John but when every single one of his lies don't make sense, it's hard to trust that person. Both women don't deserve to be put in this situation but unfortunately you don't get to choose who you fall in love with..it kind of just happens out of nowhere.

I think that both Jessie and Polly deserve much sympathy, however Polly deserves more. John left Polly and lied and hid the truth about her and the kids they had together, therefor hurting more than just Polly (hurting their kids as well). John also killed Polly, and treated her very poorly when she came to Canada even though she did nothing wrong. John loves Jessie more than he loves Polly, yet Polly's love for him always remained. John also cheated on Polly, which is one of the worst things a spouse can do. John did lie to Jessie as well, but he didn't kill her.

  9. I think that both of the women deserve the same amount of sympathy. While John literally killed Polly, he also figuratively killed Jessie as well, being gone all the time, and coercing her into marrying him.

  10. Both Polly and Jessie deserve sympathy. John deceived Polly by taking advantage of his position in Canada and fell in love with another woman. Polly was murdered because he couldn't stay faithful. Jessie would end up as the wife who married a murderer and had his child because she couldn't see behind his lies.
