Book One, Chapters X and XI

Discuss the potential implications, both positive and negative, of Polly going to Canada to find John. Do you think that she should? Why or why not?

  1. When Polly goes to Canada there is a possibility she will find John, and finally see him for who he really is. A manipulative liar. In my opinion that implication is both positive and negative. Positive because Polly will finally be able to realize what kind of terrible man she married, and get herself out of that marriage, but also negative because she completely clueless about how he has been acting and living in Canada for the past 6 years, and all the lies he has told about her, and his old life. Polly and John have a family together and she loves him and will be truly heartbroken and feel utterly betrayed when she discovers the truth. I think Polly should go to Canada, because right now she doesn't even know if John is alive and I would like to think that as soon as Polly finds John and exposes him for the decieving liar he is, then everyone including Jessie will leave him and never look back. That would be what John deserves, but if Polly goes to Canada and John finds out what if he decides to get rid of her to prevent her from exposing him? Because who knows what other surprises John has up his sleeves...

  2. If Polly goes to find John, she will most likely find out about Jesse and find out about all the lies John has been telling everyone. Even though this will break her heart because she loves John so much and wants to spend her life with him, this will help her learn that in order to be truly happy she needs to find someone better than John. Someone who is honest and treats her as a man should. I definitely think Polly should go to Canada to see what kind of life he's been living and the kind of ridiculous lies he's been telling people. If she goes, she can see his true character and realize that he doesn't deserve her. For Polly, it will be hard to let him go because they have a family together but nobody wants to be with a pathological liar.

  3. If Polly oes to Canada to find John there is a possibility that she will discover the truth, John has been living a double life. This would give Polly the opportunity to move on with her life instead of waiting for John in Scotland. I do fear, however, that when Polly does find John we will continue his trend and attempt to lie himself out of the situation and injure those he has spun into his web of lies. John has no morals. This will eventually lead to his self destruction.

  4. If Polly does go to Canada, there are many implications, but for John, the negative ones far outweigh the positive ones. If Polly does show up in Canada, she will see Jack for who and what he really is. John can't afford for that to happen. John can't afford for Polly to find out about Jessie, he can't really even afford for Polly to be in Canada at all.

  5. If Polly travels to Canda, it will have major negative and positive implications. Polly will be devestated because of her love for John, is no longer returned to her. In return, her eyes will open to the man John really is. John is very erratic, it can go severely wrong for Polly *hint *hint. I think Polly should go to Canda, because her worries whether or not John is alive are very high. Although, I fear for her because of how desperate and manipulative John can be. ~Kamryn

  6. (Kaitlyn) If Polly comes to Canada she will finally see who Jack really is and discover his awful second life. This will have both positive and negative implications. Jack will no longer be able to keep his secrets as secrets, however, Polly will be completely heartbroken it will effect the children.

  8. If Polly goes to Canada, her heart will be shattered when she finds out John is seeing another woman. Their family will be broken and her kids will no longer see their father as a hard working police office; they will see him as an awful man. However, this could be seen positively because Polly will no longer be lied to by John, and can continue raising her family. I think that Polly should go to Canada to tell John off and carry on with her life.

  9. Polly going to Canada to see John is a bad idea. We all know that John is a bad man so anything ca happen, she may be saved, with the finding of John's true person, but she is bound to be hurt. I think that she should just stay home and forget about him.
